Welcome to the AOD Provider Collaborative 

From 2009-2020 we brought together alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment organisations and related services that worked in Counties Manukau.

We planned and implemented systems-level projects designed to improve services and outcomes for people living in Counties Manukau.

While we are not currently operating, you are welcome to browse through our site for the information, research and resources that we developed to support services in Counties Manukau.

Growing a diverse workforce

We want to grow and diversify the addiction and mental health workforces. The Counties Manukau Collaborative has created resources to help with this. 

There is a recruitment guide for more inclusive job ads; a video to encourage people with lived experience to join the workforce; and a webpage about the workforce and how to join it.

Understanding and promoting Peer Support

Peer Support is an increasingly important part of our workforce, however these roles are not well understood. In partnership with the Counties Manukau Peer Potential Governance Group we have produced a video to improve understanding of this valuable approach. During 2020 we also co-hosted a successful online symposium on 'The Power of Peer Support'. These resources are available here

Wellness Support resources

The Counties Manukau Collaborative has worked with primary health colleagues to produce several resources to support people with addiction and mental health challenges in primary care services, including a Wellness Support brochure and several short videos. These resources are available here

Equally Well resources

People experiencing serious mental health and addiction issues have higher rates of health issues and earlier mortality. Equally Well is a national initiative that encourages organisations to collaborate to reduce these health inequities. The Collaborative has developed three resources and an online training for the workforce to help improve people’s physical health

The AOD Provider Collaborative is a group of passionate professionals and managers working in alcohol and other drug (AOD) services, who have come together to improve the system which supports people in alcohol and drug recovery.

Substance use disorder

12.3% of the New Zealand population will experience a substance use disorder at some stage in their lives.

Lives in Counties Manukau

11.5% of the total New Zealand population lives in Counties Manukau (approximately 512,130 people). Counties Manukau Health is the third largest DHB in New Zealand and has the fastest growing population (by 8,000-9,000 residents each year).

Counties Manukau's population is growing

Counties Manukau’s population is the youngest and most diverse in New Zealand:
– Counties Manukau has the highest number of 0 - 14 year olds of all district health boards in New Zealand.
– 12% of all New Zealand Māori, 38% of all New Zealand’s Pacific people and 18% of all New Zealand’s Asian people live here.
